  • Supplemental Recruitment Initiatives:

May-June 2017 Sales Internship for one student from the College of Business/Ferris State University. Student learned the basics about the radio industry and the sales process.

Sept 16, 2017 Taste of Mid Michigan-Latitude Media worked with PSE Marketing Fraternity in presenting an event. Taught students about event marketing, challenges, & helped with promoting the event. CMU students scored high in a national competition featuring this collaborative event.

Sept 20, 2017 Operations Manager, Shawn Powers, participated in a survey detailing the radio industry and the highlights of his career for a Central Michigan University student pursuing a degree in Broadcast/Cinematic Arts.

Weekly All Marketing Consultants participate in weekly sales training utilizing the PI Selling System. This training is held consistently throughout the year. This training strengthens the skills necessary for advancement in broadcast sales management.

Oct 4, 2017        Morning Show Co-Host, Tina Sawyer, participated in a “girl empowerment round table” called SHINE at Shepherd Middle School. Tina, along with other local, professional women, spoke to 6th through 8th grade girls. Tina discussed “individuality” and spoke to the girls about how differences should be showcased and how, in her early childhood, winning a radio contest and led to her eventually working in radio.

Ongoing Latitude Media LLC has an internship program established for students attending high school, trade school, community college, or university. Each student is given the opportunity, over the course of an academic semester, to gain skills in on-air broadcasting, copywriting, social media and web writing, promotions, and on-air show preparation. Students must be enrolled in a program related to the broadcast industry, and their internship must be endorsed, supported, and monitored by the sponsoring school. As part of the internship program established, many academic programs offer students’ academic credits for their internship experience. During the period covered by this report, Latitude Media LLC had one student intern involved in the program.

Ongoing General Manager, Bob Peters, is a contributing member of the Student Advisory Board at the Gratiot Isabella Career Technical Center, working with broadcast students and educators discussing future skills and needs for careers in the broadcast industry.

11/6/17              General Manager, Bob Peters, hosted a local Boy Scout Troop and their parents (28 total). While allowing a hands on experience in the main studio, the scouts learned the part radio plays in their lives by discussing local events they attended in the past hosted by a radio station. They learned how a radio station operates during a storm, how computers are important to the industry, and how this is a rewarding vocation for those in the broadcast field.

11/6/17               General Manager, Bob Peters, met with students from Central Michigan University’s

Journalism 102 class. Tina Sawyer, My 1043 Morning Show Co-Host was also involved. Discussions included the everyday life of a radio broadcaster, how theatre experience carries over to radio, what skills are needed in radio, what kind of education is needed as well as advice for college students starting out in the field.

2/21/18 General Manager, Bob Peters, and Operations Manager, Shawn Powers, attended a job fair hosted by the department of Broadcast and Cinematic Arts. They spoke to students about internship and job opportunities in the production and sports departments of the radio stations.
